Recently I read a great post by Jason Moffatt titled “Get Your Lazy Butt Off My Couch“. I couldn’t have said it better. The truth is I find myself even today struggling with internet marketing… I just suck at it. I don’t know why, I think that has got to be the worst part. I mean think about it, I can put anything at the top of Google, I can make websites rise in a matter of minutes to the top of the search engines. How would you like to have that power? Most people would… Most people do… I can relate to his post, “Get Your Lazy Butt Off My Couch”, I’m on the other end of the fence, I can put anything I want at the top of Google, but I am just not making that extra passive cash the way others brag about. Don’t get me wrong, I do good, but… It’s because I am the guy people call to rank a website.

That blog title comes from one of my favorite hip hop songs by Del Tha Funkee Homosapien. It also reminds me of my good friend Couch Surfing Ori who went from couch surfing everywhere to creating a awesome business!

I’d setup websites for people! Let’s face it, just about everyone needs a website or more websites.
But I can already here you say… “Jason, I barely know how to use a free Blogger account, let alone build an entire website”.

Here’s the deal…
People will gladly pay you $500 to $1000 to set up a website for them. There are thousands upon thousands upon thousands of people needing these services. And since WordPress has so many custom built themes already in the can, all you have to do is learn how to install them (super easy), and make a few tweaks here and there.
You may hire out a graphics guy for $50 for a custom header and what not, but seriously, running your own web design firm is way easier than you ever would imagine.
The reason I’m suggesting you learn these skills is because the need for websites is not going away anytime soon, nor is WordPress, which is the preferred blogging platform for almost everyone.
Once you get good at creating WordPress sites (which literally will take you a couple days if you follow Ori’s advice) you have a skill that can pay you over and over and over. This is a solid education and a great investment in yourself if you’d like to start a design firm today…
Ori didn’t really pitch his program as a way to start your own business, but rather shows you how to build sites for yourself. I say you take that knowledge you learn from Ori and charge others that are more than willing to pay you for it.

PS: I read an email from Frank Kern the other day that said he no longer hired out his web design and such and had been doing it himself as well.
Heck, if Frank can do it. We all can do it. Even I’ve had my head buried in WordPress for the last couple of weeks and I could easily go out and start charging premium fees for my skills that were totally absent less than 2 weeks ago.
